Dovetails and Stitches

At Dovetails & Stitches, every piece begins with a simple idea: to create beautiful, useful things that bring a little joy to everyday life. We’re Asha and Richard—a wife-and-husband team working side by side in our family studio, designing and building goods for home, table, and celebration. Our inspiration comes from the character of each board, the story it wants to tell, and the steady rhythm of music playing in the shop. We believe the best things are made with care, finished by hand, and built to last. Nothing here is mass-produced; every piece is crafted one at a time, with skill, heart, and a sense of story woven into each piece.

Meet Asha

Asha is the creative force behind Dovetails & Stitches, shaping the direction of our family woodworking studio as it’s grown from a small custom shop into a brand known for handcrafted, small-batch home decor and thoughtful gifts. Born and raised in Poland, she brings a minimalist sensibility and a deep appreciation for honest materials to every design she touches.

In 2022, Asha launched her own line of accessories, using offcuts and leftover wood from the studio to create pieces that are as beautiful as they are practical—reducing waste and making the most of every board.

These days, Asha is the quiet engine behind every package we send out. Most afternoons, you’ll find her at the finishing bench—oiling a new vase, checking the grain on a menorah, or wrapping an order with a handwritten note and a little extra care.

Meet Richard

Richard is the hands, heart, and chief sawdust maker behind much of the furniture that leaves our family woodworking studio. Raised in a long line of woodworkers, he grew up with the sound of hand tools and the steady patience that comes from learning at the side of his father and grandfather.

After years in a corporate career, Richard found his way back to the bench, determined to build the kind of furniture meant to be used and lived with, tables where people gather, cabinets that hold more than just things, and simple forms shaped by honest joinery and a thoughtful finish.

Richard’s approach to woodworking and finishing has recently been quoted by Men’s Journal, reflecting decades of hands-on experience at the bench.

You’ll often find him shaping a joint with his favorite router plane, sanding a board smooth by hand, or sweeping up sawdust with music humming quietly in the background. For Richard, the best furniture is built for gathering—where people linger, stories are shared, and memories are made.

  • From Forest to Furniture

This massive, 21-foot redwood slab is where every great custom furniture story begins. Fresh from the mill, still clad in bark, and full of potential.

Selected for a custom dining table commissioned by Mark and Lauren.

  • Custom Designed Legs

The client chose a set of sculptural, hand-carved legs, designed to echo the movement of the slab’s grain and make this live edge table truly one-of-a-kind.

  • Getting Ready to Begin

The real custom woodwork is about to start. Flattening the top, adding bowtie keys, and preparing this redwood for its transformation into a one-of-a-kind live edge table.

    In Its Forever Home

The finished custom redwood table, now installed and in use, marking the final chapter of this build.

“It’s already become the centerpiece and conversation piece of our home.”
